How do I get started? (part 2)
here's the second half of How Do I Get Started?:
3. Thought Management
The third step to get started in creating your reality is to start managing those thoughts, and in the process, your vibration.
That doesn't mean you have to stop thinking negative thoughts. That would be asking the impossible, in my opinion. (Although that might be a limiting belief worth questioning!)
Sometimes a negative thought actually feels better, anyway. It may very well be our ticket to a better feeling vibration, so you have to be willing to entertain what some might call “negative” thoughts.
Your emotions will tell you whether it's a thought that works for you or not. If it feels better, it's serving you!
Which is why my neighbor and I experienced peals of laughter when she suggested we slash the tires of our other troublesome neighbor. It was NOT a nice thought, and yet the relief we felt to consider that alternative was tangible!
Don't judge your thoughts as “good” or “bad” – just go with the ones that feel better.
That's the process of thought management – reaching for the better feeling thought.
It's pretty simple, although it might take some practice before it becomes your second nature.
(If you get stuck on finding thoughts that feel better, we have a resident Pollyanna on board at GVU who can help!)
So, for example, when I have the thought, “I am SO busy” there might be times that thought feels good and times when it doesn't. When I was building my practice and nervous that not enough people would hire me to keep me in business, the thought “I am SO busy” was a delicious feeling thought! When I have six different projects on my plate with looming deadlines, that thought doesn't feel so good.
When you recognize you're thinking a thought that isn't taking you toward what you want, that awareness (along with your knowledge about how this process works) is what allows you to find a thought that feels better.
“Ah, ‘I am so busy.'” Time to switch that out since I recognize it's not what I want in my life right now. I'll try on a couple and see which one feels best to go with:
· “I am getting a lot done.”
· “There is a lot happening.”
· “I actually have much more time to myself than I ever used to. It's just that my standards have been raised!”
· “None of this is more important than my peace of mind.”
· “There's plenty of time for everything.”
· “There plenty of time for everything that matters.”
· “I'm taking care of business!”
After I've tried a couple of alternate thoughts, I go with the one that feels best.
The next time I have the “I am SO busy” thought and it doesn't feel fabulous, I pick up that other thought I found that felt better.
And that process changes everything.
Again, it's more work at first, but it gets easier and more natural the more you practice it.
And that's your work: to practice finding the thoughts that feel better!
Simple enough?
4. Inspired Action
The final step in the process of deliberate creation is to follow your inspiration. That simply means do what feels good. Whatever that is.
ü It might be going to bed for four days after you have a nervous breakdown while scooping dog poop in the backyard.
ü Or taking an extra long leisurely lunch after your boss announces you're about to be fired.
ü Or taking the dogs on four hour walks up the canyon while starting your coaching practice.
ü Or putting a profile on eHarmony after you decide to call in One of the Ones.
ü Or investing thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in a new online venture to gather and connect deliberate creators.
Those were all actions I took that felt good at the time, that many people wouldn't have thought would lead to good things.
But no one else knows what feels better to you. No one can predict or interpret your vibration or where your inspiration lies.
So you have to rely on yourself for knowing what action – if any - to take.
Everyone knows that Mr. Right won't come knocking on your door while we're sitting on the couch, right? We've got to get out there, make ourselves available, take risky steps, etc. etc.
And yet when my girlfriend did all those things, she couldn't find a good man if her life depended on it. She finally gave up on the online dating, the clubs, the volunteering, the blind dates, the workplace, the gym, everything that she was supposed to be doing to find her guy.
She stayed home.
And ordered an in-home massage.
He literally knocked on her door while she was sitting on the couch.
The experts I hired consistently and repeatedly told me to become a financial coach, because my background, reputation, connections and knowledge of personal financial services made that a no-brainer of a coaching niche for me.
Can you imagine?!
Even my own coach told me not to call myself a law of attraction coach. “No one will know what that is. They'll think you're a dating coach.”
My inspiration said otherwise.
And when The Secret came out I was extremely well-positioned for new business from perfect clients.
The point being that no one else can tell you what actions are going to take you to your desired end result. Your inner guidance knows the shortest route. Listen to it, and follow it.
That simply means: do what feels good!
That might take some discerning in order to sift out the “rules” we've been trained to believe about what works and what we “should” do in order to truly hear what action feels best to us. But when it says stay home and order a massage, you better do it.
(And if/when you have thoughts like “This won't work” or “What am I thinking?!” when you take your inspired action that doesn't make sense or that others won't approve of, your work is to shift your thoughts. Let your thoughts further your progress rather than impede it when you take action.)
Okay – that's it! That's the basics of deliberate creation.
1. Become aware of your thoughts and the feelings associated with them,
2. know what you want,
3. choose thoughts that feel better and
4. do what feels good.
You can do this!
