Expanding Your Joy Upper Limit
Did you know that you have one?
It's not fixed or permanent, by any means, but it is based on what you've practiced over time and become habituated to.
Similar to how we each have a limit for how long we can hold our breath, or how far we can do the splits or run without stopping, we have an emotional comfort zone that creates a setpoint for happiness, too.
And just like with holding our breath or doing the splits, we can expand our capability with deliberate practice.
That's easy to argue against, because we think of course we can enjoy whatever good stuff life delivers. We don't have any joy limits! It's reality that constrains us! We'd be there for the whole party if life would just give us the chance to prove it!
That's the same way many argue they would have no problem being rich, if only they got the chance to prove it. And yet, so many lottery winners, professional athletes, heirs, and settlement recipients prove otherwise every day.
It actually takes practice to expand our joy capabilities.
And most of us aren't doing that - we're not consciously stretching our capacity for good vibrations. Instead, we're focused on trying to manifest what we think will take us there, not realizing that part of successful manifesting is raising our ability to feel more joy and happiness.
If you're not already doing that, I've got ideas in the latest blog post for acclimating to the good life, whatever that means for you. I'd love to hear your suggestions, too!
