3 Ways to Talk Yourself Into Feeling Better

3 Ways to Talk Yourself Into Feeling Better

A powerful skill in any conscious creator's repertoire is knowing how to talk yourself into feeling better when the vibe is out of whack.

We don't have to wait for something good to happen before we feel better – we can do it ourselves through conscious self-soothing.

It might sound simple, but you'd be surprised how many muggles suffer under miserable thoughts because they don't know how to soothe themselves.

And while there are lots of ways we can go about raising our vibe through action (going for a walk, taking a bath, dancing to Uptown Funk), feeling better through words alone is a specialized skill set worth having.

Here are three simple tips that can help anyone master this art form:

1. Use a Foundation BFT.

Adopting a generic better-feeling-thought (BFT) as a sort of thought-platform to build from can be a smart way to start.

I've noticed many of us have our personal favorites that reliably support us in expanding into more helpful thoughts. Do you know yours? Here are some favorites I've picked up from fellow creators … (this first from Esther Hicks and the last is mine):

  • I don't have to handle this right now.
  • This day will be over soon.
  • I've been through worse than this.
  • It's not my first rodeo.
  • The only constant is change – it won't be like this forever.
  • It's probably not as big a deal as it seems right now.
  • It's possible I might be overreacting.

When you find your signature BFT and launch a self-soothing session with it, you'll feel the power and find yourself on a roll in no time.

2. Engage the Love Language

It's surprising how often we get hung up in trying to comfort ourselves with words, when we're really good at doing just that for those we care about. You can channel that power inward simply by imagining what you'd say to a dear friend who was in your spot, or imagining what a loved one might say to you. Turning that love language within is a good way to talk yourself into feeling better.

3. Be Willing to Go Negative.

On the other end of the spectrum, some conscious creators get stymied in their self-soothing story because they aren't willing to go dark with it. Abe even tells us, “Sometimes you have to go through not such a nice neighborhood on your way to where you want to be.”

That's because sometimes the thought that feels better doesn't sound very nice. (Mine sometimes involve colorful curse words, for example.) But you don't have to dwell on it forever - just leverage it to the next BFT. For purposes of talking yourself into feeling better, you may find that a few dark thoughts pave a magical way to a better vibe.

Bonus Tip: Humor

And if you giggled at the thought of colorful cursing, you've just tapped the power of humor as part of an effective way to talk yourself into feeling better. Finding something – anything – to laugh about can turn the vibe around on a dime.

As with any LOA process, the more you practice talking yourself into feeling better, the better you get at it.

Remember that the magic isn't in knowing how to do it – it's only when we actually do it that we benefit. So the next time you're feeling low, give your self-talk soothing skills a spin and marvel in your vibration management abilities.
