No More Rules

No More Rules

Last month I asked if you were ready to "rock this place" by choosing how it's gonna be for you, rather than thinking we have to wait and see what happens next.

Since we're in charge of what happens next, it gets pretty fun when we use that power consciously!

In order to choose what it's gonna be for us, though, that sometimes means breaking tried and true rules.

I did it myself last month, when I offered a group event with no participant limit and no set fee (participants pay what they want, when they want).  Whereas others' past experience - and plenty of colleagues - told me it would lead to a less engaged community and dramatically reduced revenue, I thought this could be a good rule to break.

I chose people would get more value and be more engaged and more committed than I've ever experienced.  And that I would make more money than if I'd done it the old way.

And indeed, that's exactly what's happened: incredibly high energy with enormous engagement, fabuous feedback - and I couldn't be happier with the nearly 300 people in the Money Mojo party who are generously offering their gifts and services to others in the group - contributing to a community-wide transformation.

On top of that, it's already the highest profit group I've led (and that's with still a third of participants still to "pay later.")

(PS - we're already two weeks in so I'll let you know next opportunity to join in.)

My point is that it may be time for all of us to break the rule that has kept us from what we most want.

Do any of these sound like they've expired their "sell by" date?

  • I have to make a living, and my passion isn't an income-generator
  • It takes more resources than I have to succeed (a degree, an agent, a babysitter, etc)
  • At my age there isn't much for me to contribute any more

Or how about:

  • The earth will not be able to support the estimated human population growth
  • Peace is not an effective method for preventing violence
  • You can't change the past.  What's done is done.

Or maybe you've got a couple personal favorites you're ready to boot?

It's not only fun to live outside the rules (or is it just me that gets a kick out of it?), but I think it's becoming more challenging not to.

Old platforms and outdated beliefs are no longer things we can mindlessly count on .. they're shifting right beneath our feet!  Our world is changing in a hurry.

When we practice living without the crutch of "this is what's so" and instead approach life with excitement about new possibilities we might not have dared to imagine yesterday - well, can you imagine a better time than that?!

I think it's what we're all being called to: life without rules.  Life where we no longer suspend our creative power or pretend we can't do whatever we want to do.

Times are a' changing!

What rule are you ready to live beyond?
