Not Always What You Think
To a dear friend facing a surprise divorce after 18 years of what she thought was happy marriage, I told her that even when it doesn't look like it, things are working out.
Everything's always coming together, even though you might not necessarily see how that's the case.
Hindsight always reveals it.
And we navigate those rough patches much better when we remember the truth of inevitable happy endings - even while we're smack dab in the middle of the storm.
Which is exactly what a coach colleague experienced when he had only one signup for his group workshop. Instead of feeling discouraged and cancelling altogether (which most would do), he showed up fully for the sole participant - who basically got the privilege of individual coaching for $30!
Not exactly the high impact and financial boon my colleague had in mind when he created the offering.
But as a result of conducting the workshop for one participant, whether it was the integrity he showed by following through, or because of the free time he had to chat with other professionals in the space (and because he lives knowing that everything's always working out), he ended up getting hired by four other people for his top end services. That's a financial boon!
I've shared before Martha Beck's exercise where you pinpoint something fabulous in your life, and then trace backwards the key steps that led to it to prove that good things come from crap.
For example, I'm living my dream life as an LOA Coach working with amazing clients around the globe from the comfort of a beautiful home. The step that led to this dream was getting great mentoring and setting up shop online; right before that it was discovering the law of attraction (and my passion for it); and the step before that was being so unhappy with my corporate job that I could barely force myself to go any more. I had to find an alternative to the daily misery!
And it was that incredible dissatisfaction that served as the catalyst for something new and better. If management's policies hadn't been so awful, or if the job requirements weren't so unrealistic, or if there'd been chocolate at every staff meeting - I might still be there!
I can now look back and say thank God it was as bad as it was, or I might have stayed! Missing out on this fabulous life now! From that enormous dissatisfaction came my dream come true.
Which is what I do my best to remember when I'm euthanizing my cat, or breaking up with my boyfriend, or frustrated with my weight. It's what I share with my friend facing divorce and my client being denied a loan. This is gonna turn out really well - the worst stuff always does!
That's how contrast works ... the more we dislike what's happening, the more we desire the opposite. That strong desire really does take us to good places - especially when we don't get caught up in "dislike" or "frustration."
So you're invited to join me in remembering that good things come from dark times, and that it's always working out well for us. No matter how hard it might to be see in this red hot moment. Things are getting really good. :)
