The Secret To Everything

The Secret To Everything

When I answered a client the other day about how I used law of attraction for weight loss, I realized the answer could be applied to everything: romance and relationships, bank accounts and businesses, health and happiness – everything.

So this is the nutshell version of what I learned over a long road of ups and downs in my manifesting journey with my body. It isn't the only approach that works. But it is what made the difference for me, and I believe it can make the difference for you, no matter what you're creating ...

In the early days I used manifesting techniques to instruct Universe that I was a certain size or weight. I “acted as if” I was a size 6, and I practiced the feeling of satisfaction of weighing in at (what I thought of as) my ideal weight.

And I got some results with that. Weight loss happened, and scales did move. But it wasn't a vibe that I was good at maintaining long term, and eventually my body would default back to something less than satisfactory.

After playing that game a couple of times I took a different approach to manifesting what I wanted with my body …

I practiced loving it just like it was. Instead of pretending it was different, instead of imagining it was in its ideal state, I started practicing seeing the current reality of it as ideal. As beautiful. As perfect.

Which wasn't easy for someone who'd spent years practicing criticism. It wasn't just in thought that I'd been harsh – the way I treated it, too, hadn't been very loving. Including refusing to look at it naked. My belly was off limits for touching and I used to stand at the bathroom sink (while washing hands or brushing teeth) in a way that prevented thighs from touching. It was just too disconcerting to be confronted with the harsh reality of its imperfections.

So to practice seeing it as perfect, as is, was quite a task. And it took some time.

But eventually I grew to appreciate the curves that I used to curse. And I loved the features that I used to see as flaws. I basically got very friendly with my body. I loved her like she was, instead of wanting her to be something different.

And that was a big shift. A very rewarding one, too. Not to just be at peace with this form, but to appreciate it. And love it. For all her beauty and function and power. That was new for me.

What followed was a whole new gig with this body. I don't know if she started giving different instructions or if I just heard them better, but things changed. Sleep habits shifted; the desire for certain foods fell away and new ones appeared. There were new inspirations for movement (less elliptical, more yoga; less weights, more gardening) and I honored whatever signals arrived.

What happened next surprised me, although it shouldn't have.

I was dancing in the shower one day when I noticed my thighs no longer touched. How did that happen?! Huh. I hadn't been hoping for it or imagining it. I'd made peace with these big beautiful thighs. And here they were getting smaller. Huh.

Another day I was lathering up in the shower and noticed my stomach was oddly flat. (“What is this? Why are you so flat? Oh, howya doin', abs?”) Just after I'd gotten used to loving its roundness! Not because I'd been wishing for it, but because I stopped wanting it to be different.

I started standing in front of the mirror (often naked and in full appreciation of what was happening there) like a normal person rather than to prevent thighs from touching. And there I was standing normally with no touching thighs. Which didn't even seem so magical any more, because I'd found the magic in my body as it was. Which it had been all along, just waiting for me to see it as such.

Long story short, I'm at the lowest weight I've seen in years and I don't even care. In my mind that's not even something to celebrate, because my preference for higher or lower is gone. Our obsession with weight is ridiculous, anyway. I'm done thinking I know what this body should be. I trust her to do what serves best and I consider all of it good and right. When I fuel her with love, good things happen. That's how law of attraction works.

That's a different approach than “acting as if” I'm a certain size or visualizing a particular weight on the scale.

I realized this approach could work for anything we want in life. Instead of using a manifesting method to create change, loving what is could be the swiftest way to what we want …

  • If I loved my financial situation as it is right now (instead of trying to manifest it bigger and better), that vibration of love would just bring more to love.
  • If I loved my job as it is right now, I can't help but end up in a job that is even more lovable.
  • If I loved my relationship as it is right now, that cues Universe that I'm having a loving relationship, and it's got to make it more so, one way or another.
  • If I loved my house as it is right now, well I know what happens there. I get an even better house, when I didn't even think was possible to improve on.

The key, of course, is that in loving it (whatever "it" is) as is right now we drop resistance. And that makes us an open receiver of even more to love.

After that all we do is honor inspiration. So when my body says wake up instead of sleep, that's what we do. When she says blue cheese instead of vinaigrette, that's what we have. When a brilliant idea strikes for my business, I find the courage to say yes to it. When a relationship starts to crumble (or one I'd written off shows new promise), I honor the signs of change.

This isn't a new revelation about the power of appreciation. Conscious creators know how transformative it is to plug in to this vibe.

Learning to flow love and appreciation for whatever you were wanting to change might be your quickest ticket to an “even better” reality.

But it can't be faked, it doesn't always happen overnight, and doing it with an agenda of change isn't truly love.

If I can do it on this body, that I was so good at hating for so many years, you can change your perspective on your situation, too. Once you decide to.

Which is why I suggest giving yourself the gift of loving it like it is. It might take some practice, but it is a habit worth making.
