When Things Aren't Lovely: 4 Tips for When Life Sucks

When Things Aren't Lovely: 4 Tips for When Life Sucks

Jeannette Maw

If you're having an easy breezy uneventful spring, you can skip to the LOA roundup below, because this article is for those experiencing an uncomfortably challenging and rather intense April.

I've read a variety of explanations as to why we might be experiencing life as one roller coaster ride after another lately, but regardless of what's up, conscious creators know how to ride this out.

Here are 4 reminders for when things are going to hell (all of which I've engaged myself this week):

1. Own it. When it feels like life's beating you down, it's no use pretending otherwise or trying to ignore it.  Acknowledge how you're feeling and do a proper job of having a bad time. If you don't know how to have a bad day with gusto, this is your reminder. (GVU members can re-listen to the call on hissy fits.) The more you embrace it, the sooner it passes – contradictory as that may seem.

The gist of it is don't try to change it or get rid of it. (What we resist persists.) Just feel it out and you'll be fine. Really.

2. Give yourself a reality check. The truth is that even if the worst case scenario unfolds you're still going to be ok. Suspend the “sky is falling” stories that might be running through your mind. You've been through worse and you'll get through this, too. In fact, someone out there would probably love your problem.

3. Lay low/hands off the wheel. This is not the time for big decisions or scheduling important meetings or conversations if you can avoid it. This is the time for putting your heads under the cover, letting the phone ring unanswered, and catching up on House of Cards episodes.

4. Remember you've got backup. Turn things over for a while by calling in your favorite higher power – angels, guides, higher self, God, Universe, or all of the above if circumstances call for it. Tell them what you'd like to have handled and let them do their thing.

That's what I've been practicing this week. But you've got inner wisdom that already knows what you need. Listen for it and honor it.

Lastly, here are a few tips for taking the edge off a scary ride:

Remember it happens to everyone. Don't judge yourself for it.

Invoke Easy World, or Golden Key it, or whatever else might help you let go for a while.

Think on what it's creating! If you understand the role of contrast, you know you're rockin' it out with step one right now, and what that leads to will be AMAZING!

When you can, notice what's going right. Something always is, and pointing that out to yourself can help ease the pressure you're feeling now.

Laugh it off. Anything that makes you laugh is okay. (My laughter-inducing thought today: it's actually not approved for public sharing. Email me and I'll share it privately, though.)

Self care up the yin yang. What I mean by that is extra sleep, walks outside, high quality food and drink – this is the time to make sure you're engaging the basics of being good to yourself.

Glean the upside: if you're astrology savvy, you can check your chart for aspects that might be contributing to this experience. When you see what's in play, you've got a chance to mine the positive aspects of that astrological influence. (And if you don't know how to do that, see Transform with Transits starting April 30.)

Consider you're not seeing the big picture. Remember when Cher thought she was ruining her life by sleeping with her fiance's brother? Actually, it was the exact opposite - her real dream come true was unfolding all the while. That's probably happening to us, too, right now. We just can't see it yet. It looks like things are in the crapper, but actually they're working out perfectly! That thought alone can help get us through the dark night.
